Star for Life is a non-profit organisation on a powerful mission: to empower young people to value learning, make healthy life decisions and realise their dreams. 

Founded in 2005 by Sigmas owner Dan Olofsson, the initiative grew out of a concern for youth affected by HIV/AIDS and the hope of offering new opportunities through education and motivation. Operating across multiple countries in Southern Africa, Star for Life works with partner schools, coaches and community programmes to build self-esteem, improve school outcomes, enhance health awareness and open pathways to higher education and sustainable livelihoods. 

While teachers focus on teaching, Star for Life’s coaches are on hand to work with the learners self-esteem, integrity, dreams and goals. Through workshops, exercises and music, children and young people learn about everything from puberty, consent, sexual and reproductive health, relationships and hygiene to study discipline, empowerment, respect for others, creative expression and entrepreneurship.

Since the start, over 500,000 students have participated in Star for Life’s programs, and evaluations show that the greatest impact is made for girls in the poorest areas.
