Electrification

An increasing understanding of the impact of fossil fuels on the environment is currently driving the transition to electrified solutions at an increasing pace. But electrification also offers many other benefits in the form of cost savings and flexibility.

We work with electric powertrains and hybrids for both passenger cars and heavy vehicles, but also with industrial solutions for e.g. hand tools and construction equipment.

Our core competence in electrification includes battery and charging technology, inverters, as well as electrical machines and actuators. The technology is known and proven, and can be adapted relatively easily to new industries and applications.

CASE – HIL-rig for battery charging.

CEVT is a technology- and development center that creates solutions for Volvo Cars, Lynk & Co and Geely Auto. Within the High Voltage Power System division, test functions are being developed to support the growing verification needs within CEVT’s development projects linked to electric cars. A new test rig (HIL) was needed to match the battery charging test strategy.

Sigma supplied a team to lead and carry out the complete development of a High Voltage HIL rig. The goal is to enable functional testing of the high-voltage system and its components. The main purpose of the HIL rig is to enable testing of:

  • AC charging and DC charging with simulated battery load
  • Conversion between high and low voltage – DC/DC
  • Built-in charging functions, error handling, communication and control interfaces
  • Sigma supplied a HIL rig with the ability to charge AC and DC – (400 V) including cabinets, junction boxes, electronically controlled loads, battery model and control software integrated into CEVT’s verification framework and development environment. The team developed hardware and electrical schematics, Matlab/Simulink-based battery model, and software for CANOe, CAN, and Ethernet control buses written in Python. The HIL rig was delivered on site at CEVT’s premises in Gothenburg.
